Autumn Newsletter

How nice to be able to say what a wonderful summer we have had – yes the ground has been hard , but there has been wonderful hay made this year and the horses have looked well with the sun on their backs and we haven’t had to cancel events due to waterlogged ground – so lots to be grateful for!

2013 hasn’t been a vintage year for our teams and our representation at Championships has been much below our normal performance.  Sarah West did well at the Horse Trials and Marie Clements qualified for Lincoln but declined the invitation as she was our sole representative and that is a long way to go on your own. Alys Matravers qualified both Tiger Tim and Fancy Pants for the Dressage to Music finals which are about to take place shortly. We are constantly on the lookout for team riders and please do make yourself known to either the Team Manager or a member of the committee who can point you in the right direction – the next qualifiers to come up will be the winter novice dressage ( Prelim and Novice standard) and the Novice Indoor Show Jumping.  The championships for both of these will be at Hartpury in Spring 2014 – all on surfaces and a straightforward one day journey from here.  So think about it and get in touch!  Sarah Whittington and Ed Hobbs ran some very popular jumping training during the summer –  with teams in mind – and we are very grateful to them. Let’s look forward to a good 2014 campaign!

So to the Winter Programme – For our Supper Evening we have been so lucky in securing the services of Jock Paget to come and speak to us – and we had him booked after his Badminton victory – so we made a good choice!!. He will be talking at the Northover Manor, Ilchester on November 7th and you will find a booking form with this mailshot.  There are only 120 places – so don’t leave it too late!! For our training days you will see that once again we have our usual stalwarts in  Jane Holderness – Roddam, Steve Hague & Sue Petty, in addition to our regular sessions with Nikki Stephens, Amanda Edmonds and Gaye Farquharson. There will be something suitable for everyone and every ability so do come and support these clinics.  For any clinic involving jumping we are insisting that participants provide a helper or help in another session themselves – we cannot expect our trainers to do this by themselves! Fees for clinics MUST also be paid in advance.

We are using only King’s Sedgemoor EC at Greylake on the A361 near Othery and Kingfisher Equestrian this winter! We are still desperately looking for helpers at events – so please try and spare some time to help at an event this winter – please ring one of us
before we have to ask YOU!!!

The membership fee has been held at the 2012/13 level and membership is due for renewal on November 1st.  We hope to see you at the AGM on November14th  at Wincanton Racecourse – free supper – presentation of annual awards and  a quiz!!! Our cheques from the Terrier Racing will be presented to World Horse Welfare ( who will also be selling Christmas Cards etc) and the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance.

We hope to see you out and about at our events this winter and Safe Riding!

If you are not riding – please offer to help at one of the events.
