New Year Newsletter 2014

Well- what a fantastic start to the New Year!!  Margaret Peverley our stalwart of Mid Somerset since it’s inception 45 years ago -(yes forty five years since the start of the Bath and West RC!!!!) has been awarded the British Empire Medal for services to equestrianism in the New Years Honours List. Our heartfelt congratulations go to Margaret – she has so richly deserved this wonderful accolade.

Sorry to come back down to earth but …………

Having hopefully reminded those of you who have forgotten that November 1st has now passed ~ we will pass on to more pleasant topics!

Those of you who came to the ‘Jock Paget’  evening at the Northover in November – will hopefully have enjoyed the wonderful evening with Tina Cook. We could not have announced this in advance as until Jock Paget’s test of the B sample was postponed – he was still hopeful that he would have been allowed to come.  Tina was amazing and understood our predicament and stepped in at the eleventh hour and did a superb job.

Now the 2014 qualifying season kicks off on January 18th at Badgworth  with the Indoor Show Jumping – our new SJ team manager is Sara Bartlett ( 07967 208 778) – she would love to hear from jumpers ready for summer teams too!  For the Winter Dressage – Alys Matravers is the team manager for dressage ( 07512 239 303) that is January 26th at Pontispool .  For Horse Trials, CT, Hunter Trials etc. , Mandie Bown is again the Team Manager( 07968 146 209).  Being a Team Manager is really hard  and very often thankless work, these managers do not have time to ring everyone on the members list – so the onus is on YOU to contact them and make yourself available!!!  We usually run at least one Area only team which will give you the taste of team participation without the stress of thinking you may face a National Championship before you really feel ready.  So please pick up the phone and talk to the relevant team manager for whichever discipline suits you and have a chat to them – we need to get MSRC back at the top! Let’s make 2014 a vintage year!

The start of the winter season has begun without weather disruption and although entries haven’t been brilliant – the competitions have been well run and enjoyable.  Do please help the organisers by entering dressage in good time as it makes the organisation much more difficult when the entries don’t come in  until the poor organiser is preparing the times.

Training clinics are going well – Nikki Stephens, Amanda Edmonds and Gaye Farquharson have been busy and we are about to have clinics with Jane Holderness-Roddam (spaces available -please book asap), Steve Hague and Sue Petty.

The summer dates for our open shows are :

Wincanton Racecourse
May 11th – Dressage Festival
June 8th – Annual Show
Aug 24th Pic n Mix Combined Training day
We would be delighted to have offers of organisers for these events – or if not organisers – some helpers, please! Could you contact Margaret or Marian if you are prepared to take on one of these competitions?

South Barrow
Dressage – June 1st, August 3rd & 21st September
Show Jumping – May 4th, July 6th & August 10th.

King’s Sedgemoor
May 18th Eventer’s Challenge Jumping

Mid Somerset are running the Area 12 Dressage to Music qualifier at Kingston Maurward again this year (May 26th) – so  yet again Marian is looking for helpers for this day –so please ring her.  If you want to come and ride in the non music classes – there is something for everyone and if you want to ride in the music classes please ring Alys.   We hope Saracen will again kindly sponsor the music classes with lovely prizes. There will be an Open – Pick a Test –  music class so if you want to have a go at this – now is your chance!

We also are planning another Judge Training session with Alicia Anderson – watch the website for more details!

Finally – as many of you will know – Margaret has moved house.  Her new address is: 31, Yeovil Marsh Park, Yeovil, Somerset. BA21 3QQ. Please DO NOT send mail to Locombe Cottage – or if you can’t break the habit of a lifetime and still do it by mistake ONLY mail addressed to Mrs M Peverley will be redirected by the Royal Mail – nothing addressed to Mid Somerset Riding Club will be sent on to the new address – it will just fall into a black hole!

We hope to see lots of you out competing in the New Year and wish you all sound and healthy horses and a very Happy New Year. Please enter early and please if you change your e-mail address or mobile phone number don’t forget to let Julia know!!!!
