MSRC New Year Newsletter 2018

MSRC New Year Newsletter 2018

Dear Member,

Happy New Year to you all!

We will start with a brief round up of last year’s team activities – 2017 was again not a vintage year but the dressage teams are definitely on the up! Carol has done a really good job as Team Manager and we had a Riding Test Team qualified for Hartpury at the Wales and SW Regional Championships. The team of Carolyn Edwards, Jaki Dyer, Jenny Frampton and Nic Norman only just missing out on the placings by a whisker and Jaki being placed as an individual. At the Novice Winter Area Qualifier all three of our teams were placed and Jaki has qualified as an Individual for the Championships at Arena UK.

Show Jumping and Horse Trials were less well supported- but those who did represent us had a good time and we are hoping to build on this for 2018. The Novice Winter SJ and the Arena Eventing competitions are imminent, and Sara and Martin will be longing to hear from you.

Please remember that being a Team Manager is really hard and very often thankless work, these managers do not have time to ring everyone on the members list – so the onus is on YOU to contact them and make yourself available!!! So please pick up the phone and talk to the relevant team manager for whichever discipline suits you and have a chat to them – we must get MSRC back to the top! To refresh your memory and for new members – our SJ team manager is Sara Bartlett (07967 208 778) – she would love to hear from any of you jumpers – for the Dressage – Carol Plested is the team manager, we know we have talent in this discipline so please contact Carol on 07973 360 968. Martin Boreham (07813 132 949) is Horse Trials and Arena Eventing – and there is a vacancy for Combined Training. Any offers? Please contact these people and let them know your availability.

Mid Somerset again ran the Area 12 Novice Winter Dressage Qualifier at King’s Sedgemoor in October and thanks go to the whole team that made the days such a success. We have had a lot of congratulations for running such an efficient day. We have agreed to run this qualifier again in 2018 for the 2019 Championships – so Marian will be after you for the first weekend in October!

On the competition front we have had mixed success. There have been good days and some days when we have struggled for competitors. We are giving the combined training a rest this year – but the dates that are confirmed are given on a separate sheet. You will see that we have no summer jumping apart from the Annual Show. We cannot get any volunteers to run jumping, and the summer dates last year were very badly supported. So if you want jumping – you know what to do!!!!! We are as ever desperate for organisers and helpers so please put your name forward to Margaret or Marian if you can help on any of these dates.

Our Quiz was so popular again in 2017 that we will run it again on Friday March 9th at Long Sutton Village Hall – with another fabulous supper prepared by Ed Hobbs! So get your teams together in good time.

Training is continuing to be popular. Don’t forget Jane Holderness-Roddam on January 27th at World Horse Welfare. We are SO lucky to get Jane and are happy to subsidise this to give you the opportunity to benefit from her experience and she will teach ALL abilities so do put yourself down. The Day Camp will also be a fun day as will the test riding with Lynne Baldwin on February 4th.

Our Supper Night was a great success – a real case of it will be alright on the night! Emile Faurie was unable to be with us and fortunately Jennie Loriston-Clarke stepped in and was her amazing funny and informative self. Food at the Northover was as good as ever and Margaret’s amazing raffle enabled us to give £900 to charity. 2018 is our 50th anniversary so we hope for something special this year!!

The speaker at the AGM was local eventer Alex Bragg – who was brilliant and we shall all be hoping that he gets on the team for WEG in North Carolina this year.

We hope to see lots of you out competing in the New Year. Just a reminder – please, please enter early and please, please if you change your e-mail address or mobile phone number don’t forget to let Julia and Alex know!!!! Between them Alex and Julia are still having all kinds of nightmares with your contact details! If you receive your programmes electronically, please download them or pay the extra £5 and have hard copy by post. Carolyn Edwards will be taking over aspects of the Membership and we will advise you of any changes as they occur. Ed Hobbs has now become Chairman and we wish him great success in the post. Jane Surmon and Bev Troutt were introduced at the AGM as new committee members and a presentation was made to Alison Crommelin who has stepped down from the Committee after years and years of sterling service.

Wishing you all sound and healthy horses and a Very Happy and Successful New Year

Your Committee
