Arena Eventing Competition

Dear All 

On the 25th of November there is a Riding Club Arena Eventing competition at Bicton Arena which is a qualifier.   I would like to enter a team or two or three and individuals . .

The Heights will be 60 cm 70 cm 80 cm 90 cm and 100 cm I The club will pay entry fees so the cost will be the normal £5.

The competition details are on the area 12 website so please have a look and let me know ASAP if you are interested so we can get the teams entered.

I have also arranged for team training AT BICTON AREANA on the 17th of November to jump Arena xc fences along with Quantock Riding Club who have booked the Arena for the day with trainer Gaynor Lomas.

The cost is £20 per horse in groups of 4 to 6 at relevant heights you want to compete at with our team members but may be mixed with Quontocks to make up classes .

Priority will be giving to members who will be competing in the competition but any member can come to the training if spaces are available which they are at the moment.

I need to know A.S.A.P if you wish to compete I have to get preliminary  entries done next week and / or come to training so I can liaise with Quantock.

I am sorry this is short notice .

This is a brand new event that BRC have introduced in addition to FOTH in February and we are all keen to make it work and keep it for the future.

One Day Camp

Don’t forget to book your place on the one day camp with Gill Longhurst & Ed Hobbs  at WHW Glenda Spooner Farm, Nr. Kingsdon TA11 7LA

on Saturday 29th September 2018                        

Two of our very popular trainers have teamed up to give another day clinic with the morning being given over to Gill with flat work training and the afternoon to Ed with his pole work sessions. So why not bring a picnic and make a day of it? Do both types of session! It would be just like being at Camp!!! Or of course, you may do a single session of your choice.

Gill will have three sessions for 4 people starting at 10am and Ed will have three sessions for 4 people starting at 1pm.

Dressage Team Update

Having qualified at Aldon on 21st July our team of Jackie Dyer, Jenny Frampton, Sarah West and Rosey Bradburn headed to Hartbury on 18th August for the SWWRC Champs. They had a great day and finished a creditable 4th in the dressage class and the riding test class. A special mention to Sarah who was riding her 19 yrs young “Ask Again” who looks amazing and who she has won 15 point to points and 2 hunter chases on; a real genuine RoR.

MSRC Spring Newsletter 2018

Dear Member,

Is this winter ever going to end? Mud glorious mud, everlasting rain, wind and snow the like of which we have not seen for quite a few years. Competitions and training sessions have had to be cancelled on an unprecedented scale. Although we may have struggled – the horses all seem to be looking really well, so roll on the summer.

The Winter Programme that survived has gone well with training being well supported and the Day Camp was full. Our Charity Quiz night was one again a huge success and our thanks go to Carol for again keeping control of a record thirteen noisy teams, Jane, Bev and Sadie for their hard work and of course to Ed and his team in the kitchen for once again supplying an amazing meal. The date – March 1st 2019 – has already been booked for the next one and teams from Long Sutton have already registered their determination to field a better team! The proceeds will go to World Horse Welfare at Glenda Spooner Farm and the Injured Jockeys Fund.

We are now looking for TEAM members for the summer qualifiers. We would remind you that Team Managers do not have the time to ring everyone on the membership list and the onus is on YOU to contact them and offer yourself for team selection. Their contact details are given at the end of this newsletter SO PLEASE GET IN TOUCH!!

Please don’t think that YOU are not good enough for a team – talk to the Manager!

As I write this we have a dressage team travelling to the National Championships for the Novice Winter Dressage at Arena UK at Grantham this weekend. Sadly Jackie Dyer who had qualified as an individual sadly cannot participate as Ava is on the sidelines at the moment, but our team will be represented by Mandie Bown, Jenny Frampton, Kim Forster and Carolyn Edwards. We wish them well.

So to the Summer Programme ~ we have training with Gill Longhurst at World Horse Welfare, Amanda Edmonds at Kingfisher, Jumping and pole work clinics at SBEC, Sparkford Hall with Ed Hobbs . There are three day clinics planned with Sue Petty at Kingfisher, a whole day with Gill and Ed at WHW, Cross Country introduction with Ed Hobbs- contact Ed directly. Please book early for all training sessions.

On the competition front we have cut back on the summer show jumping days as no one is prepared to run them – so the only jumping competitions will be at the Annual Show on June 10th at Wincanton.

There are four dressage days booked, two at Kingfisher and two at KSEC in the afternoons. Alex is now very kindly taking the EQUO entries, but we desperately need organisers for the day of the competitions. Alex cannot continue to do everything for the dressage days. Judges will be found and the organiser needs to do all the tasks on the day itself – it is not onerous – but we cannot continue the way things are. Some clubs make helping a condition of membership, we have tried not to go down this route and are hoping that help will be forthcoming.

We will also desperately need help for the Annual Show at Wincanton Racecourse on June 10th Please contact Margaret or Marian. A half day would be wonderful – this event does take a huge amount of effort and planning and YOUR help would make all the difference.

This year sees us celebrate our 50th anniversary so we have planned a special Supper Night for this occasion. The venue will be the Northover again on Tuesday November 27th and our guest will be John Francome! Details of this event will be available soon. We shall also be looking for nice raffle prizes for that evening.

Carolyn Edwards has kindly agreed to take on the membership task from Julia – we are very grateful. We shall be asking you soon to confirm that you are happy for the club to hold your details as part of this new EU legislation concerning data protection (GDPR) which comes into force at the end of May. However, BRC have so far not provided their policy on this.

Also a timely reminder that a lot of venues which you may hire privately are now asking for personal accident insurance cover – remember your BRC insurance covers you at BRC events only, and this is third party.

We hope you find something to interest you in the Summer Programme ~ we look forward to seeing you out and about soon. Please help us by getting your entries in early for both training and competitions. It would be very useful if when entering training clinics by cheque that you write the date of the relevant clinic on the reverse of the cheque. See if you can spare time to help at one competition! Just a few hours will be appreciated.
